iPad , Saviour of the World

iPad , saviour of the world – no not really , but does seem to be generating a degree of
interest in certain circles that could have a pretty dramatic impact . The apple rumour
mill is legendary , both before and after launch , witness the number of apple blogs around.

Symbian sees real growth in smartphones

According to Lee Williams , the  executive director of the Symbian Foundation , the smartphone market is set to grow by between twelve and fifteen percent in 2009.

This would be quite impressive , given the current economic climate and the general stagnation in cell phone sales and manufacturing.

Microsoft plays tag with Apple

Windows_generic_h_thumb According to an authoritative report in  The Wall Street Journal , Microsoft is planning to launch  its own touch screen cell phone , in direct competition to Apples iPhone.

Lets hope they come up with something better than Zune !

Firefox poised with mobile browser

Interesting review on VNU about Firefox's mobile browser , Fennec , which is currently still in beta version and is limited to testing on Nokia N810 .

Firefox has made huge inroads into Explorer's market share on so called desktop browsers and is well poised to have  a prominent position on MID's .

Whilst Opera has a relatively low market share of 'desktop' browsers , just over two percent .according to w3 schools , it arguably has a higher profile for its mobile browsers which are widely used on cell phones.
