Safer Internet Day

Never quite sure who decides on these so called days , but very happy to plug it – this one is today , 12/February and is being co-ordinated by an organisation called Insafe which describes itself as a European network of e-safety awareness nodes !

New Jersey passes ‘internet predator bill”

The state of New Jersey has passed a bill , S1979 , which imposes quite severe restrictions on certain sex offenders from accessing the internet , the intent being to reduce temptation and therefore reduce the likelihood of someone re-offending.
The potential danger of a bill like this is that it can create a sense of safety which actually doesn’t exist but leads parents and kids into thinking they are safer and are therefore possibly less vigilant that they would be otherwise.
